We were thrilled to welcome the Drascombe Association to Waveney River Centre’s moorings last month. The Drascombe Association is a group of enthusiasts dedicated to traditional-style sailing boats designed by the late John Watkinson – over 5000 have been built since the first Lugger was launched in 1966.
After arriving on Friday, the intrepid group sailed to Beccles and back on the Saturday – though the wind didn’t always play nicely and there was a bit of cheating with outboard engines. Their endurance was rewarded however with a fabulous evening meal at the Waveney Inn.
After a full breakfast at the pub on Sunday morning, a trip to Oulton Broad was in order – the wind had decided to make up for Saturday and offered a more challenging force 5.
You can check out their full itinerary and see more photos on Daisy II’s blog.
With an amazing range of facilities, Waveney River Centre really is your perfect location for a boating rally – with easy access moorings & slipway, a pub serving delicious local food & ales, an indoor heated swimming pool & café and a shop. Accommodation on the Park includes everything from basic tent pitches & glamping pods to luxury self-catering lodges and hotel rooms – so there are plenty of options if you can’t sleep on board your boat.
The lovely market town of Beccles is 7 miles upstream, Oulton Broad is only a couple of miles around the corner, and Somerleyton is about 4 miles downstream. All make brilliant stopping off points for your sailing or cruising group.
