Angling
Angling is a perennially popular sport with all ages and our riverside location is the ideal spot for pike, roach and bream - either from the bank or a boat. Rods, bait, starter fishing kits and other accessories are all available from our shop.
To fish on the Broads, you will need to purchase a rod fishing licence from the Environment Agency which is available from every post office in England & Wales, via telesales 0870 1662 662, or online at www.environment-agency.gov.uk.
Fishing from the riverbank at Waveney River Centre is free for our residents and costs £5 per rod per day for non-residents.
Note that fishing is not permitted during the closed season which for 2008 is 15th March to 15th June. There is an annual Fishing Competition, usually held in September.
Hanging in pride of place in the Waveney Inn is 'Eddie', a 28 lb pike caught in 1948 and which provided Pete Rogers and Alex Hallowes with the inspiration for their 3.5m high steel sculpture of a leaping pike which marks the entrance to the visitor marina. Eddie II forms part of the Southern Broads Sculpture Trail.
